The term “IVF” is used as a broad term for all things fertility. But fertility assistance is more complicated than that!

Here are just some acronyms to get us started:

AMH: Anti-Mullerian Hormone (blood test)

ART: Assisted Reproductive Therapy

CD#: Cycle Day, e.g., CD1 (Cycle Day 1), first day of period

Cryo: Cryopreservation, or egg freezing

ER: Egg retrieval

FET: Frozen embryo transfer OR fresh embryo transfer

FSH: Follicular Stimulating Hormone (blood test)

IUI: Intrauterine Insemination

IVF: In-Vitro Fertilization

LH: Leutinizing Hormone (blood test)

REI: Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialty

Pineapple: The universal sign of IVF. Pineapples contain the chemical bromelain, which are thought to promote fertility.

PGT-A: Preimplantation Genetic Testing for an Aneuploidy (embryo test)

PGT-M: Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders (embryo test)

Stims: Medication for ovarian stimulation for ER

TSH: Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (blood test)

TWW: Two-week wait

US: Ultrasound
